Homer

At just 4 years old, Homer has already overcome more than most dogs face in a lifetime.

Before coming to rescue, Homer spent his life as a traveling breeding dog, living in a van and valued only for the puppies he could produce. When he was rescued by True Love Golden Retriever Rescue, his future looked heartbreakingly uncertain. Homer was diagnosed with a cancerous anal gland tumor and initially given only months to live.

But Homer wasn’t ready to give up – and neither were we.

True Love gave Homer his first chance at a new life, and they have continued to stand beside him every step of the way. When GRRSN became involved, the two rescues came together with one common goal: to give Homer the best life possible for whatever time he has left.

A second opinion gave this sweet boy hope. Homer underwent major surgery to remove his tumor and the affected lymph node, and he was finally neutered. His journey continues with chemotherapy, but Homer is showing us every day that he intends to make the most of every moment he’s been given.

And right now… he is doing amazing!

Homer is tolerating his chemotherapy medicine like a champ, and, believe it or not, he is eating better than ever! He is full of life, full of personality, and soaking up all the love and happiness he should have had from the very beginning.

Over Labor Day weekend, Homer got to experience something that might seem simple, but means so much to us – he went to the beach and watched a beautiful sunset. There he was, enjoying the sights, the smells, the breeze and the moment… simply being a dog.

Those are the moments we rescued him for.

We are incredibly grateful to True Love Golden Retriever Rescue, who originally rescued Homer and continues to help with his ongoing expenses. Together, our two rescues have one common goal: to help Homer live out the rest of his life, however long that may be, surrounded by love, comfort and all the good things he was denied for so long.

Today, Homer is surrounded by people who love him and are committed to giving him the very best life possible. He has a safe and loving place to call home, a family who cherishes him, and a rescue team standing behind him to make sure he receives the care he needs for as long as he needs it.

As a GRRSN Forever Foster, we will continue to provide for Homer’s veterinary care, including his chemotherapy, cancer monitoring, medications and follow up care, with the continued support of True Love Golden Retriever Rescue. His care is a team effort, made possible by two rescues and, most importantly, the incredible people who choose to support him.

Homer doesn’t know that he has cancer. He doesn’t worry about tomorrow. He knows that he is loved, that his belly is full, that he has a soft place to sleep, that he gets to go on adventures and that there are people who think he is pretty darn special.

And right now, that is enough.

If Homer’s story touches your heart, please consider making a donation toward his ongoing care. Every gift helps us continue giving Homer the life he deserves – one filled with sunsets, beach days, full meals, soft beds, medical care and, most importantly, love.

We don’t know how much time Homer has. None of us do.

But we do know this: whatever time he has left, he will not spend it alone, unwanted or without love.

Two rescues. One beautiful boy. One common goal. To help Homer live whatever life he has left to the fullest – surrounded by love. ❤️🐾
