Nearly 30 dogs have been rescued from unfavorable conditions after the owner of a Crawford County home is found dead.
Just days ago, dozens of Golden Retrievers were discovered in a house in North Shennango Township in Crawford County.
Now these dogs are in the care of The Anna Shelter here in Erie.
Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell says he received a call after a family said they hadn’t seen their 53-year-old neighbor for many days.
The neighbors also hadn’t seen the man’s dogs outside in awhile.
Upon investigation, the man was found dead in the house.
He died of natural causes, but had been dead for two weeks before he was discovered.
Scott Schell says the man was a dog breeder.
The house is somewhat rundown, it seems the dogs were well taken care of before the owner died.
But, so much time had passed that some of the dogs also died without attention and others weren’t doing well after being in the house so long without care.
The coroner called The Anna Shelter for help and they took the dogs in.
Many still need medical care, but several have been adopted.
Once the dogs find their “forever homes,” they’ll need special care because of the circumstances they endured.
Because so many of you have reached out, that The Anna Shelter says they have closed the application process, and are preparing for the dogs to go home with new owners.
