Homer
At just 4 years old, Homer has already overcome more than most dogs face in a lifetime.
Before coming to GRRSN, Homer spent his life as a traveling breeding dog, living in a van and valued only for the puppies he could produce. When he was finally rescued, his future looked heartbreakingly uncertain. He was diagnosed with a cancerous anal gland tumor and initially given only months to live.
But Homer wasn’t ready to give up and neither were we.
A second opinion gave him hope. Homer underwent major surgery to remove his tumor and the affected lymph node and he was finally neutered. His journey isn’t over, as chemotherapy is still ahead, but today Homer is doing what he should have been able to do all along… simply enjoying life.
And what a joyful boy he is.
Despite everything he’s endured, Homer is one of the happiest, sweetest Goldens you’ll ever meet. He greets each day with a wagging tail, loves being around his people and has embraced every bit of the good life – soft beds, gentle hands and unconditional love. He doesn’t dwell on his past. He simply lives in the moment, soaking up every bit of happiness he can.
Homer is dog selective, but don’t let that discourage you. He has been living successfully with his three foster sisters and does well with respectful canine companions after proper introductions. Like many dogs, he simply appreciates having the right friends.
Because Homer will continue to need ongoing medical care and monitoring, he is looking for a Forever Foster home through GRRSN.
GRRSN will cover all of Homer’s veterinary expenses for the rest of his life, including his cancer treatments and follow up care. All you need to provide is a loving home, good food and the commitment to cherish him.
If you’ve ever wanted to make a life changing difference for a dog, Homer is waiting. His story isn’t defined by cancer or by his past, it will be defined by the family who chooses to love him for the rest of his journey. Could that family be yours?
