Gus and Ginger

On July 4, 2012, we adopted littermates, Gus and Ginger, from GRRSN.

Gus was a tall, elegant ‘red’ and ginger was a smaller, cute blond.  The first night was a challenge because both dogs were literally petrified of fireworks, wind and rain.  They never outgrew the fear, but “scary” pills and thunder shirts helped.

They were a blessing to us for six years.   They were polite, well-behaved, funny and so very loving.  They loved to swim and go to the park next to a ball diamond, where they hunted baseballs and found many.  Dave would take them for long walks around the neighborhood and everyone loved them.

We have such wonderful memories.  In the evening after dinner, Gus would grab a toy and charge out the dog door, waiting for Ginger to follow.  She would and they would play tug-of-war.  Ginger was known to watch TV when there was a fast-paced baseball game.

Gradually, Gus became Dave’s dog and Ginger, mine.  They both got lots of attention and love, and they returned it twice over.

They were both diagnosed with cancer in 2017.  We fought it off for as long as we could.  Gus left this earth in June and Ginger in December.  We sent them off to the Rainbow Bridge, reminding them they would always be in our hearts…
