Milton Before

Milton comes to us from Lied; he was stray, and already neutered- (thank God!).  At twelve years of age Milton has several issues–  Visibly he was mess; poop on his rear end; thick matted coat; foot long Dreads and all over body tufts. He walks very slowly, head lowered, wanders as if he has no sense or depth perception and he loses balance (panics if his feel don’t feel the ground). His teeth are bad. I offered him a treat which he held with his front teeth but when he went to bite down it seemed he couldn’t bite down and spit it out.  I felt bad for him as he seemed really hungry. His ears are infected and crusted with amber colored gunk and painful, has a sty on lower lid of right eye and  what’s most likely a Sebaceous Cyst on his back drains puss. he has scars and sores and to top it all off— He’s deaf!     His vision is okay but he’s deaf as a door knob.

Milton held up great considering everything he went through today. He only protested a couple times during his grooming. Sure couldn’t blame him.  And doesn’t he look like a million bucks? What a transformation…. From drab to fab!

I had him in for exam before his grooming. He’ll get a complete work-up including a Senior panel.

Things to know about Milton from my observation: although he rode quietly in my car he stumbled, tumbled and could not right himself when he landed on the backseat floor– head first. I highly suggest he be seat belted in while traveling.
When I opened up the hatch back he attempted to walk off, not just get out … he didn’t see the drop and would have face planted the pavement. Again, he has little depth perception, so no home with a non-fenced pool for him.
This dear, sweet boy has had the last of a tough life. I don’t know what the test results will reveal health wise, but if he has a day, a month or a lifetime he’s going to be happy.
Milt is at Spencer Springs Animal Hospital getting all the care he needs.
